The legal predecessor of Digital Ltd was founded as a co-operative in 1986, with a staff of 15.
The firm’s major profile is the delivery of hardware and software turnkey-solution systems according to the requirements of the users. In the first year of operation we acted as a national brand-service of TPA computers (DEC compatible Microvax) on the authority of the Central Physics Research Institute, but soon, owing to the technological development and changing demands we expanded our business towards the market of IBM compatible computers.Since 1990 our company has been operating as a limited liability company, bases on real ownership. In 1989 Digital Ltd. was the second firm in Hungary to sign a dealer contract with Hewlett Packard to sell HP computers and peripheries. Subsequently our company became a Value Added Reseller partner of Hewlett Packard Hungary Ltd. in 1991. Besides selling and installing computers and peripheries our firm has layed special emphasis on providing accessories and supplements to users on a permanent basis. Also in 1991 we became an authorized dealer of Intel, D-Link and APC.
Since the moment of establishment our firm has distinctively dealt with designing and implementing computer networks. Our network specialists have remarkable experience in the field of integrating computers into networks of different platforms (Peer-to-Peer, Novell NetWare/IntranetWare/Netware 5.-6.x, Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003, and UNIX/Linux servers) So far we have designed and installed hundreds of local and regional networks. The development of telecommunication technologies and the increasing demand for high quality computer networks urged our company to get prepared to applying the most up-to-date and complex network technologies. Therefore we contacted AT&T, the market leader company in planning and installing structured networks at that time, and by applying the Systimax PDS system of AT&T we built up the integrated network systems for almost 100 branches of OTP Bank Corp. among others.
As more and more new manufacturers came out with complex solutions in the field of structured network cabling technologies we felt a pressure to widen the scale of our products. To achieve this we have become the network systems integrator of the Swiss Reichle & De-Massari freenet Cabling System and that of Alcatel Cabling System. Such integrated network systems ensure that the entire telephone network, the data transmission system and the closed-circuit video network can operate within the same network with maximum security and in professional quality. Owing to our expertise and quality work our firm was assigned to implement the local informatics systems in the Hungarian stores of Praktiker department store chain (including R&M freenet cabling, Nortel Networks and RIT active elements) as well as within the scope of a successful Phare tender tendered by the National Council of Justice of Hungary local informatics systems were installed in 22 cities within 40 days (including ALCATEL ACS cabling, Nortel Networks active elements).
Our experienced system engineers are entitled to design, supervise and/or support the operation of networks of high importance, such as the computer network of the Supreme Court of the Hungarian Republic, VIVENDI Telecom Hungary, EMITEL Corp., Budapest Business School, Lombard Corp., Pick Szeged Corp., Phoenix Rubber Manufacturing Ltd., Phoenix Pharma Corp. and ITD Hungary Corp.
Since 1994 Digital Ltd. has been an authorized partner and dealer for “SynOptics” (known as Bay Networks after 1995, and Nortel Networks after 1998), which is one of the market leading companies for producing active network elements in the world. By prominent investments we have achieved to have proper instrumentation for revealing and eliminating network problems. In 1995 we became an authorized Premier Reseller of “Cisco”, which manufactures devices to build up and operate long-distance Wide Area networks. Besides the hardware business we are also an authorized partner of many significant software developing firms in order to provide a full-scale service to our customers. With the support and help of our MCSE and CNE engineers we mainly offer Novell and Microsoft network operation systems to our customers In addition to being familiar with the server operation system softwares we also lay emphasis on the knowledge and support of network applications (saving/archiving, management, virus-protecting, data securing, document managing, e-mail, and printing programmes). Loss or leakage of sensitive data became a highly significant security concern as a result of the large-scale spreading of the use of portable and small data storing devices. To solve this problem we contacted n-Trance, one of the acknowledged solution provider companies in this field in 2007, and subsequently signed an exclusive distributory contract covering the whole territory of Hungary. The success of our work is reflected by the company’s annual sales that reached 600 million HUF (about 4M USD) in 2007.
The headquarters of Digital Ltd. is located in Szeged, but we also have a branch office in Budapest to provide effective service and marketing services. Sixty per cent of our staff are qualified engineers. Relying on their expretise we offer full-scale technical support to the successful operation of every system implemented by Digital Ltd,, and certainly guarantee to permanently provide our customers with any neccessary supplementary products. Our special field of interest is the sector of profit-oriented large enterprises, but we also have strong positions at the state administration and in the banking sector.
We are completely aware of the fact that the success, greatness, value and stability of Digital Ltd. is defined by its market position, therefore we keep improving the quality of our services in order to enhance the satisfaction of our customers. To achieve this we lay special emphasis on strengthening the image of our company, on human resource management, as well as on the operation of a full-scale and effective marketing and information system, which altogether result in the evolvement of a quality-centred leadership and the accomplishment of our aims in quality policy.
Reflecting this mission we had been operating a standard MSZ EN ISO 9001 quality assurance system for the field of „Design and Installation of Informatics Networks and Network Systems” between 1998 and 2006. In 2005 we decided to make a progress, that is to expand the quality assurance system from this subfield to all our business activities. After extending, revising and subsequently introducing the full-scale quality assurance system we passed the audit process on 10 November 2006. Since then we have been fulfilling all our business activities according to the specifications of the ISO 9001:2000 standard. In order to assure the highest-quality service in various fields of the market of informatics we signed a co-operation contract with the Institute of Informatics of the University of Szeged (called Attila József University at that time) and with the local organization of John von Neumann Computer Society at the end of 1998.
Based on this contract, mainly in 1999, the newly-formed co-operative working group started to work as an expert team employing a self-developed method for the resolution of problems in informatics emerging at the turn of the millennium. At present members of this co-operative working group serve as consultants, system organizers and counsellors to fulfil our customers’ demands.
Since autumn 1999 Digital Ltd. is entitled to participate in purchase procedures executed within the framework of centralized public procurement as an „Authorized supplier” according to a contract signed between the Department for Centralised Public Procurement of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office (presently KSZF) and Hewlett-Packard Hungary. This new way of sales and offering services presented an opportunity to expand the number our customers and the scope of our business activities. Since 2002 we have managed several projects of systems integration and development successfully in co-operation with our Hungarian software developer partners in order to satisfy the demands of our special clients regarding the improvement of the functionality of applications and software systems they use.
